About us
Peter Galvão Healion
ECO SURFING AZORES was founded by Peter Galvão Healion, a young entrepreneur who loves nature. Born and raised on São Miguel Island in the beautiful Azores archipelago, Peter spent more than half his life dedicated to the sea. Being a surfing competition athlete from a young age until today, becoming regional champion multiple times, he was in the top 10 nationally in his category for several years and participated in several stages of the world circuit. As a local surfer on the north coast, his favorite beach is Areal de Santa Barbara, located in the municipality of his residence, Ribeira Grande. His passion is surfing and teaching others, and he already has a career as an instructor/coach. Peter, in addition to teaching the technique to perform, includes surfing ethics and culture in his method, as well as the most ecological option. In this way, he chose to make his decisions in a sustainable way, always taking into account the marine ecosystem.
ECO SURFING AZORES foi fundada por Peter Galvão Healion um jovem empreendedor amante da natureza. Nascido e criado na Ilha de São Miguel do belo arquipélago dos Açores, Peter passou mais de metade da sua vida dedicada ao mar. Sendo atleta de competição de surf desde tenra idade até à atualidade, sagrando-se campeão regional múltiplas vezes, encontrou-se no top 10 nacional na sua categoria durante vários anos e participou em várias etapas do circuito mundial. Surfista local da costa norte, a sua praia predileta é o Areal de Santa Barbara, localizada no Concelho da sua residência, a Ribeira Grande. A sua paixão é surfar e ensinar os outros, tendo já uma carreira como instrutor/treinador. Peter além de ensinar a técnica a executar inclui no seu modelo a ética e cultura do surf, assim como a opção mais ecológica. Deste modo optou por tomar as suas decisões de forma sustentável, tendo sempre em conta o ecossistema marinho.

Sustainability is much more than a fashionable word. ECO SURFING AZORES' mission is to contribute to the development of surfing in the Azores region in the most sustainable and effective way, taking into account the 4 pillars of sustainability, namely: Environmental,Social, Economic and Cultural.
More than teaching how to surf, it seeks to recover the true essence and culture of surfing, raise awareness of environmental issues, reduce the ecological footprint and above all preserve marine and coastal ecosystems!
